L to R: Richard Kruspe (lead guitar), Paul Landers (rhythm guitar), Christoph "Doom" Schneider (drums), Christian "Flake" Lorenz (keyboards), Till Lindemann (vocals), and last, (but NEVER least in my book), Oliver "Olli" Riedel (bass guitar)
Well, WHO are they?
I'd love to tell you outright that they are a German industrial band, but though German, industrial they aren't. German metal band? No. Then what ARE they? Their own guitarist, Paul Landers, put it best in his interview for Live aus Berlin when he said simply, "Rammstein ist Rammstein.". They have a sound unique unto themselves, a formula that has worked well through 4 studio albums (Herzeleid, Sehnsucht, Mutter, and Reise, Reise) and one live album (Live aus Berlin). The band consists of six (yeah, man, SIX!) members, and they are:
Where can I hear/see them?
First off, you can pick up one of their albums: "Herzeleid", "Sehnsucht", "Mutter", and "Reise, Reise". They have also appeared on many soundtracks, including: "Mortal Kombat: Annhilation" soundtrack, "Lost Highway" soundtrack, and the "xXx" soundtrack. They appeared on the "Family Values Tour '98" DVD/VHS. They also have two DVD's of their own out: "Live aus Berlin" and "Lichtspielhaus". They also have many books out, including: "Rammstein" (the official book), "Messer" (a book of non-Rammstein related poetry by Till), and "the Rammstein Tourbook" (photos of their Mutter tour). There are many other places to see them and hear them, but here's a few to get you started. I hope if you ARE unfamiliar with them and their music, that you truly give them a good listen. Remember, you can't take their lyrics at face value...Often the most shocking of their statements are truly the most mundane when you look at the meaning underneath them. They are an EXTREMELY talented group, who doesn't get nearly the respect and adoration they truly deserve. If the fact that their lyrics are in German is what is throwing you, you can go HERE, a site with superb English translations of their lyrics, as well as the transcribed German ones. Show them your love! The Rammstein fandom needs to grow!
